Kutaisi City Assembly will elect mayor today after only one candidate, Giorgi Tevdoradze, submitted his candidacy for the post.
The two-week term for submitting applications expired on Dec. 22.
The City Assembly already reviewed Tevdoradze’s program at a bureau session.
Tevdoradze was a vice governor of the Imereti region in 2003-2007.
Former Kutaisi Mayor Nugzar Shamugia resigned on Dec. 8 after President Saakashvili criticized his work.
If supported by the assembly, Tevdoradze will become Kutaisi’s eight mayor since the Rose Revolution.
Kutaisi administration representatives told Georgia Today that the assembly’s sitting will be held today at 17:00 and Tevdoradze will most likely be the new mayor.
