Vitaly Khripun is the third Russian soldier to seek asylum in Georgia.
In an interview for Ria Novosti Khripun said that he served for less than two weeks in South Ossetia and no one knew of his intention to ask for political asylum in Georgia.
As a reason for his move the soldier has indicated a disagreement with commanders.
“None wants to serve in South Ossetia…All wait for completion of the two years,” he was quoted as saying.
The Georgian Ministry for Refugees and Accommodation is looking into the case. It will take four months until a final decision is made.
