Prime Minister Nika Gilauri presented Papuna Davitaia as the new minister of diaspora issues at a briefing today.
Former minister Iulon Gagoshide will chair the archaeological center formed at the president’s administration.
“Papuna Davitaia headed the department of diaspora issues in the ministry of culture so far, therefore, he is well aware of the problems in this sphere,” Gilauri said.
Another new face has emerged in the cabinet. Khatuna Kalmakhelidze replaced Dimitri Shashkini as minister of Corrections and Legal Assistance, who is now education minister.
The PM expressed hope that Kalmakhelidze will perform successfully on the new post.
According to Kalmakhelidze, important reforms had been carried out in Georgia in the last years, including the very important reform in the penitentiary system.
She said her work will be guided by humanism and will continue the work started by her predecessor.
