Taxi Drivers Working Without Permission to Be Fined by Gel 200

Tbilisi taxi drivers, who transport passengers without proper permission issued by City Hall, or who breach their permission, will be fined 200 GEL.

The amendments made to the Code of Administrative Offenses was initiated by ruling party Georgian Dream (GD) MP, Nino Tsilosani, and has already been submitted to Parliament.

According to the amendments, if the driver does not pay the fine within 30 days, the penalty will double.

In case the taxi driver does not pay the fine and the penalty within a further 30 days, proper measures in accordance with the legislation will be carried out against them.

Tsilosani says the purpose of the bill is to regulate and improve traffic in the capital, through enhancing existing sanctions and introducing new regulations.

Tbilisi City Hall announced the mandatory registration of taxis in late January. According to Tbilisi Mayor, Kakha Kaladze, this means that people who want to be taxi drivers will have to apply for a special permit from Tbilisi City Hall.

The registration of taxis will be chargeable, and the income will be transferred to the budget of the capital.

The exact amount of the registration fee is not known yet.

The new regulations will be launched in summer or autumn 2018.
