US Navy Ship Visits Batumi Port

The US Ship Ross (USS Ross) arrived in Batumi for a port visit on April 21. It’s the ships first visit to Georgia.

The visit ‘serves to highlight the continued cooperation between the US and Georgia by promoting regional peace and stability,’ reads a report by the US Embassy.

American sailors will visit sites in Batumi and meet their Georgian Coast Guard counterparts. There will also be a friendly football and basketball game, and the sailors will meet local youngsters at the American Corner in Batumi.

Foreign support is vital for maintaining security in the Black Sea Region: “Our allies in the Black Sea continue to play a key role in maintaining security in the European theater,” said CDR David Coles, commander of the ship. “The crew and I look forward to enhancing our interoperability in a dynamic environment as well as experiencing the rich history and culture in the region.

The USS Ross is a guided missile destroyer designed for anti-submarine warfare and ballistic missile defense. The ship will also work with NATO allies and partners during its visit.
