Tskaltubo Receives 30 Million GEL Investment For New Mining Facility

The spa and thermal town of Tskaltubo close to Georgia’s second-largest city Kutaisi will receive a 30 million GEL investment, announced the Ministry of Economy. The ministry issued a license to allow the development of a calcite deposit in Mekveni, located in the Tskaltubo municipality.

The investment will transform the deposit into a new mining area, including facilities to process the harvested minerals at the location. Over three years, multiple tranches of money will accumulate to a total 30 million GEL investment and will at least employ more than 80 individuals, which is the minimums required to have received the license.

Although Tskaltubo has historically benefitted from its status of a spa town attracting thousands of Soviet holidaymakers every year, new development still fails to regain the past level of wealth for the town.
