First Iraqi Tourists In Batumi

Under the organization of Turkish Airlines, a group of 10 representives including journalist, TV reporters and tour operators from Erbil-Iraq arrived to Batumi. During 3 days, the group visited historical and natural sites of Batumi. Members of the group commented that, natural and historical features of Georgia would attract increasing number of Iraqi tourists in the near future. After Batumi discovery, group went to Tbilisi for next step of their Georgia journey.

Vashadze meets Clinton in Washington

While visiting the United States during the UN General Assembly in New York, Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze held a meeting with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on September 26.

During the 25 minute meeting, they discussed Georgia-Russia WTO talks, Georgian troops in Afghanistan and the upcoming elections in Georgia.

Clinton, according to a US Department of State official who spoke on the condition anonymously, thanked Vashadze and Georgia for the decision that aims to increase the Georgian troop level in Afghanistan to 1,700.

Saakashvili on Tax System

Although the Georgia’s tax and customs system is far from perfect, it has recently been improved and cases of unfair treatment of businesses have been reduced, President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili said.

Speaking in an interview with Imedi TV on September 24, Saakashvili said that “We’ve [gotten] too carried away with the ratings, which marked Georgia as the number one reformer in the world and with the lowest level of corruption.” According to him, all these are true, but what’s on the paper is one thing and what was really happening in the last two years was another.

Vashadze to travel to the Oceania region

Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze, is traveling to the Oceania region of Australia, New Zealand and Fiji from September 28 to October 6.

The Georgian foreign minister is going to meet with his counterparts from these three countries during the visit- which is the first-ever by a Georgian foreign minister.

Bakradze to visit EU countries

Davit Bakradze, Georgia’s Parliamentary Speaker will pay an official visit to three European countries: Poland, Sweden and Great Britain, according to the press office of the parliament.

On September 29, Bakradze participated at the Eastern Partnership Summit in Warsaw. He attended the conference as part of the Eastern Partnership on the path to European democratic society, prosperity and a strong civil society.

The summit participants assessed the progress which six Eastern Partnership countries (Ukraine, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia and Belarus) made in the implementation of the Eastern Partnership over the last few years. Bakradze also took part in the conference entitled Towards European Democratic Community, Welfare and Strong Civil Society.
