Medvedev asks for ratification of military bases in Abkhazia and S. Ossetia
Print version
Russian President Dmitri Medvedev asked the State Duma on August 8 to approve agreements with Sokhumi and Tskhinvali on terms of the functioning of Russian military bases in these two regions.
Russia signed military treaties with Abkhazia and South Ossetia; two internationally recognized territories belonging to Georgia last year, after it recognized the independence of the breakaway regions in 2008. The recognition, for its part, followed the 2008 August War with Georgia.
