The Bacho Cup tournament organized in Tbilisi

The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia organized the traditional media tournament- The Bacho Cup on July 1, 2.

The contest was held for the second time this year and 10 male journalist teams and 8 female teams took part in mini-football and beach volleyball. The championship was held on international sports journalism day on Kus Tba (Turtle Lake) in Tbilisi.

According to the Ministry, the Bacho Cup is created to honor the memory of the late journalist, Bacho Svanidze.

Georgia’s Tatishvili among 100 best world tennis players

Georgian tennis player, Anna Tatishvili, 21, is among the world’s 100 best tennis players, according to the GHN local news agency.

Born on February 3, 1990 in Tbilisi, Anna Tatishvili is a professional Georgian tennis player. Her highest WTA singles ranking is No. 84, which she reached on 4 July, 2011. Her career high in doubles is 107, which she reached on April 12, 2010.

Tatishvili started playing tennis at the age of four and is a right-handed player. She is currently coached by Ean Mayer and Dimitry Tatishvili.

President’s son establishes Guinness Record

Edward Saakashvili, the son of Georgia’s president Mikheil Saakashvili, has established a Guinness record in the presence of a representative of the Guinness Records. Saakashvili overtook other contestants and succeeded to type the alphabet on his iPad fastest than anyone else.

With his right hand, Saakashvili typed the English alphabet in 5.25 seconds; beating the record previously set by a British teenager, Charley Joseph by 1.5 seconds. Mr. Joseph established his record last year. This is the first record since modern technologies that was established in Georgia.

Photographers accused of espionage

The Interior Ministry of Georgia confirmed on July 7, the detention of four photographers, including Irakli Gedenidze, who worked for the Georgian President’s press office.

On Thursday night, police arrested Gedenidze together with his wife Natia Gedenidze, a photographer with the Tbilisi-based Prime Time newspaper. Photographers Zurab Kurtsikidze of the European Pressphoto Agency (EPA) and Giorgi Abdaladze, who works now for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also arrested.

According to the Civil.ge news portal, Shakh Aivazov of the Associated Press was also taken by the police last night but was released just after mid-day on July 7.
