Wrestler Datunashvili disqualified

According to the Disciplinary Committee of the Georgian Wrestling Federation, Greco-Roman style wrestler in the 74kg weight category, George Datunashvili has been disqualified for three years.

The GHN news agency reports that at the Tbilisi Grand Prix, Datunashvili physically abused referee Aleksandre Patarqalishvili during the quarter-final with future bronze-winner Iranian Saeed Al Abdvali, which lead to the fight. Spectators were also involved in this fight. The referee immediately removed Datunashvili from the competition.

“The wrestler behaved unethically. He violated the discipline that is expected of athletes. Anyone who behaves in this manner in the future will also be punished”, said Kakha Getsadze, President of the Wrestling Federation.

Georgian rugby players succeed in Romania

The Georgian national rugby team defeated the national team of Namibia 23:18 on the third meeting of the finals at the IRB Nations Cup’s in Bucharest, Romania.

According to the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs of Georgia, the first half of the match was not successful for Georgia, with the Africans leading15:10.

The first try was scored at the end of the first half, which contributed to Georgia’s eventual victory of 23:18.

The Georgian team finished the tournament with two victories and one defeat (2-1) and the team is ranked second after South Africa’s Kings.

Georgia vs Moldova

On the second qualifying stage of the UEFA, Georgia’s champion Zestaphoni will meet with Moldova’s Dachia. This was announced by the votes in Nyon, Switzerland.

The GNH news agency reports that Georgia will have its first match at home on July 12 or 13, and a week later, the response meeting will be held in Moldova’s capitol.

Two Georgian players, David Gamezardashvili and Levan Korgalidze, are playing for Dachia.

Prosecutor requests the detention of Badri Bitsadze

The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office addressed the court, asking it to impose a more severe sentence to the accused Badri Bitsadze, due to him violating the suppressed measure (mortgage) used against him before.

Bitsadze, the former chief of the border police of Georgia and husband of the former parliament speaker Nino Burjanadze, was charged by the prosecutor’s office on May 30 for organizing a group that attacked the police. Bitsadze was among the leaders of the recent anti-government street rallies that were dispersed by riot police on May 26. On June 1, the prosecutor’s office requested the court to set a bail in the amount of 100,000 lari for Bitsadze to be paid within seven days. However, no bail has been paid.

Russia may increase military presence in Abkhazia

Russia and Abkhazia agreed to increase the presence of their militaries on the borders of so-called Abkhazia-Georgia.

The Russian Internet publication LifeNews reports that the decision was made “in order to avoid provocations from the Georgian side.” The agreement is related to the 2014 Sochi Olympics and foresees the doubling of Russian military forces on the territory of Abkhazia beginning in 2013.

According to a top official in the Russian Defense Ministry, Georgia still continues guerilla operations in the region of Gali. He said that Sokhumi and Moscow have agreed to increase peacekeeping forces in this region. An anonymous top official stated that by 2013, Russian peacekeepers in Abkhazia will increase their numbers by 350; leaving the number at 1,500 for now. He added that this number is not to exceed the parameters agreed upon by the heads of countries which are in the Commonwealth of Independent States

Will cleaning fees rise?

According to a new initiative by City Hall, cleaning fees will be attached to fees for electricity. In other words, citizens will pay money for litter along with the electricity. However, the fees will be determined by kilowatts-used and no longer by the number of family members.

To be more precise, the electricity-used during the month will be multiplied by 5 tetri and the fees will be determined by this formula.

Oppositions of State Council of Georgia are protesting the new initiative of City Hall.
