Author:  By Lika Moshiashvili

GD Alco, was established in 2004 and holds a leading position in the Georgian market selling the world’s highest-class alcoholic drinks to customers around the country. The company distributes such famous brands as Bacardi-Martini, Brown Forman, Moet Hennessy and Diageo.

Georgia Today interviewed Tinatin Didava, the Public Relation Manager at GD Alco to learn more about their products, particularly about Moet Hennessy.

Q: Please tell us what kind of high-end alcoholic drinks does GD Alco offers its customers at present?

A: GD Alco has a wide choice of alcoholic drinks and Moлt Hennessy, better known as LVMH, is a French multinational luxury goods conglomerate headquartered in Paris, Оle-de-France; France is our priority A category brand. The company was formed after the 1987 merger of the fashion house Louis Vuitton with Moлt Hennessy, a company formed after the 1971 merger between the champagne producer Moлt & Chandon and Hennessy, the cognac manufacturer. This is very precious cognac. I am sure every man who loves good alcohol will like this brand very much.

Q: Please, tell us the history of the Hennessy brand?

A: Hennessy has a very interesting history. The Hennessy cognac distillery was founded by Irishman Richard Hennessy in 1765. He would later go to Re Island where Hennessy would eventual settle. He gave up military service and settled in the town of Cognac. As French people like to say- real cognac comes from the town of Cognac. Since that time, generations of Richard Hennessy have made this product and its one of the leading premium brands in the world.

We are also actively promoting Hennessy in Georgia. GD Alco organized the dinner for Hennessy where Mori Hennessy, the representative of the seventh generation of Richard Hennessy attended the evening.

The Adjara region is the main citrus fruit producer in Georgia. And this year, the Adjara region expects to harvest up to 75 thousand tons of citrus fruit; this number is up from last year’s 46 thousand ton harvest.

The region holds more than half of the country’s total citrus fruit harvest each year. The citrus harvest will kick off on November 15th in Adjara’s Khelvachauri district, located in the southwest corner of the country.

Vazha Mkurnalidze, the Head of the Agricultural Development Department at the Ministry of Agriculture in the Autonomous Republic of Adjara told Georgia Today that “the citrus fruit harvest will increase by approximately 60 percent due to the warm weather.” He also attributed the proper care and maintenance provided to the citrus trees as another contributing factor behind this year’s large harvest.

However, he also explained that there is more to growing citrus fruit than planting the trees and harvesting the crop. “The 2011 citrus fruit of Georgia is of very high quality in comparison to last year’s yield, as our farmers’ knowledge about cultivar selection, planting techniques, pruning and fertilization has increased,” he noted.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara, the number of citrus fruit farmers increased in 2011 and has reached more than 22 thousand, while in past years only 1,500 farmers managed to grow citrus in Adjara.
