Enrique Iglesias dazzles music fans in Batumi

The performers kept temperatures soaring at MTV Live Georgia

Author: By Tamar Khurtsia

The Euphoria singer didn’t take long to get the entire crowd on their feet while descending on Georgia’s Black Sea resort town of Batumi. He made an impression fans won’t soon forget.

Dressed in jeans with a silver chain, double T’s, his signature shaped baseball cap and a cloth band on his left hand, Iglesias, played host to MTV’s first event - MTV Live Georgia, an open-air concert in the city’s historic Europe Square on a night filled with music, spectacle and drama on August 2.

Making his first ever visit to the region, the Latin singer electrified the crowds with his high- octane performance and surprising grasp of the Georgian language. The singer made a special flight directly to Batumi all the way from Australia to perform for Georgian music lovers midway through his Euphoria tour.

The Latino heartthrob and global superstar, who holds the record as the best-selling Latin artist of all time, having sold more than 61.5 million albums and 40 million singles around the world, entertained 10,000 music fans in Georgia and wowed the crowed for an hour and a half with a sizzling set list combining the most stunning tracks from his 2010 Spanish/English album release Euphoria including the monster hit I Like It the Nicole Scherzinger collaboration Heartbeat, as well as classic tracks from his greatest hits catalogue including crowd pleasers like Hero and Be With You.

Despite a light drizzle at the beginning of the evening, Iglesias kept temperatures soaring with his energetic performance, keeping the audience singing along on every song.

The response was overwhelming:

Nutsa, 20, a music fan told Georgia Today after the concert: “Yes, I touched Enrique Iglesias and attended his live concert; I am in a shock, I will never forget this day in my life.”

Brave zestafoni fall to sturm graz

Georgian champions out of Champions League, but into Europa League

Author: By Alastair Watt

Reigning Georgian champions Zestafoni were knocked out of the Champions League at the 2nd Qualifying Round stage after an aggregate 2-1 defeat to Sturm Graz of Austria.

A 1-0 loss in the second leg in the Arnold Schwarzenegger Stadium in Graz on August 3 sees the Georgian side drop in to the draw for the Europa League play-off round.

Having produced a fantastic performance in the home leg in Tbilisi which deserved better than the 1-1 draw it earned, Zestafoni traveled to Austria knowing that they still had a fighting chance to progress.

Indeed it was the visitors who made the more lively start to the second leg.

After 14 minutes, Zestafoni goalkeeper Roin Kvashkhvadze launched a hopeful punt upfield which striker Nikoloz Gelashvili controlled brilliantly before shooting narrowly wide of Christian Gratzei’s goal.

Moments later, the Georgians were on the attack again as Jaba Dvali, who netted twice in the previous round against Dacia Chisinau, unleashed a stinging long range effort which forced Gratzei into a smart save.
